Combat helicopter showcase at RAF Cosford Air Show

The flying displays planned for the RAF Cosford Air Show 2017 were today boosted by the exciting news that the popular Chinook & Apache helicopters would be performing in the skies over Shropshire on Sunday 11th June.

Wartime Weekend to celebrate and remember 106 Squadron and RAF Metheringham

RAF Metheringham was the wartime home of 106 Squadron from 1943 to the end of World War Two. Wing Commander Guy Gibson was its Commanding Officer at RAF Syerston before he was requested by Air Marshal Arthur (Bomber) Harris to form 617 Squadron (the Dambusters) flying from Scampton. To celebrate and in memory of 106 Squadron and RAF Metheringham, volunteers from Friends of Metheringham Airfield are holding a Bank Holiday special covering Sunday, 30th April, and Monday, 1st May.

Helicopter Museum to host Aero Jumble and Aviation Collector's event - May 6th.

The Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare will be holding its first aero jumble and aviation collectors' event on Saturday 6th May, raising funds to help preserve its unique collection of aircraft. The museum, which houses the world's largest collection of rotor-craft including the speed record holder G-Lynx and two helicopters of the Queen's Royal Flight, will have surplus aircraft parts from its collection for sale. Items range from smaller cockpit instruments, to engines and rotor heads, to an Agusta 109 fuselage and a Jet Ranger chassis.

Vintage Village returns to RAF Cosford Airshow - Skymaster joins static line-up

This year's 'vintage village' will have a 1960s theme - the static line-up planned now includes an O-2 Skymaster and Jet Provost. New for this year will be a cockpit sections display, with exhibits to include a cockpit from an English Electric Lightning.

De Havilland Aircraft Museum launches crowdfunding bid

The de Havilland Aircraft Museum's project is to raise money to 'match fund' a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund which together will enable it to build a new hangar. The new building will incorporate a learning centre and event space. It will also allow the museum to position most of its collection under cover, enabling critical restoration work to be completed. As the new hangar will be connected to existing buildings it will allow the attraction to extend its open season. It will feature a large mezzanine floor with several 'learning rooms' for schools, clubs and associations. The Vulcan Restoration Trust (VRT) at London Southend Airport has announced its next Visit the Vulcan open event on Sunday 23 April, 10am to 4pm.

BBC historian hails "best World War One aerodrome in world"

International historian and broadcaster Dan Snow has hailed Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome as the best in the world. The BBC One Show history presenter visited the unique site near Maldon, Essex, recently to view some of the newly-renovated buildings and visit the Royal Flying Corps Home Defence Museum.

Lancaster to fly at Croft Nostalgia Festival

Weather permitting, the BBMF’s Avro Lancaster PA474 has been confirmed to fly at this year’s Croft Nostalgia Festival on August 5 and 6 in North Yorkshire.

Hurricane moved inside Hendon

Further to other recent stories about the changes at RAF Museum Hendon as part of the RAF Centenary Programme, the museum has just released this picture of Hawker Hurricane Mk.I P2617 being moved. The fighter is staying at Hendon but is being relocated within the museum. As previously reported, the Junkers Ju 88, Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2, Gloster Gladiator and Boulton Paul Defiant have been delivered to Cosford. Cosford Ju 88 progress - and news on the next Open Cockpits Evening

The RAF Museum Cosford is making good progress on its re-assembly of Junkers Ju 88R-1 D5 + EV. The attraction has also announced that two other German World War Two aircraft will be among the star attractions at its next Open Cockpits Evening on May 19-20.

Trustees to march 130 miles for RAF Museum

Two Trustees from the RAF Museum are set to walk a marathon a day for five days in order to raise funds for the museum’s RAF Centenary Programme. The challenge takes place from May 8 to 12.

Mirage IVA to begin its journey to Yorkshire museum

Dassault Mirage lVA EA BR No.45 will begin its journey to Elvington's Yorkshire Air Museum on Monday, March 27. It will commence its road and sea transportation from Chateaudun Air Force Base, southwest of Paris en route to its new home. It's expected to arrive on or around March 30.

Airshow award for Australian Trojan

Pilot Chris Godfrey was awarded the Best Presented Warbird trophy at the Avalon International Airshow in Geelong, Australia, which was held on March 3 to 5. Chris won the gong for his superbly maintained North American T-28D Trojan 51-3588 (VH-PFM). B-25 Mitchells to converge on Dayton, Ohio, for Doolittle 75th Anniversary

Mitchells from around the US will once again take to the skies before landing at the National Museum of the USAF as part of a two-day tribute commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Doolittle Tokyo Raid, April 17-18.
