Gary Parsons - 16-Dec-2010
December 16: History was made in the US on December 10 at Quincy Regional Airport in Illinois when aviation company Air USA successfully flew the world's first Mikoyan MiG-29 Fulcrum in private ownership.
Flown by ex-US Air Force pilot and instructor Fred ‘Spanky" Clifton, the MiG is an ex-Russian Air Force example and will join Air USA's fleet of Aero L39, L59, Alpha Jet and MiG-21 already in operation providing the military with contracted dissimilar aircraft operations.. Clifton was an exchange pilot with the German Air Force and has experience flying the Russian fighter when it was part of the Luftwaffe’s inventory.
Don Kirlin, Naval President and Founder of Air USA, said "Believe it or not, it's not easy getting a MiG-29 into the United States and flying. 'Natasha' (as the aircraft has been named) may be the first, but we have three more."
