July 18: Henry William Allingham, the world's oldest man, passed away at the age of 113 at the St Dunstan's care home in Ovingdean, near Brighton, East Sussex.

Henry, who held the French decoration of the ‘Légion d'honneur’, was one of the founder members of the Royal Air Force. He joined the military in 1915 and trained as an engineer in the Royal Naval Air Service, witnessing the Battle of Jutland and the scenes in the trenches on the Ypres battlefield.

Henry passed away on the day that the Royal Navy presented its biggest flypast in recent memory at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford.
