March 3: News agency AFP reports that the Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF) has grounded its fleet of Northrop F-5E/F Tiger IIs following the loss of two aircraft on March 2.
Three pilots were killed when the two aircraft crashed into a mountain near the east coast. A spokesman for the RoKAF said that the fleet of approximately 170 F-5E/Fs would remain grounded until the cause of the crash was determined.
As well as the F-5Es, the RoKAF operates a handful of older F-5A/B ‘Freedom Fighters’ in the reconnaissance role.
