July 23: A GA8-TC Airvan has successfully completed its mission as the first Australian-designed and manufactured aircraft to circumnavigate the globe.

Produced by Gippsland Aeronautics in the State of Victoria, the Airvan was piloted by Ken Evers and Tim Pryse, who also raised funds for the ‘Millions against Malaria’ campaign (www.millionsagainstmalaria.com).

They took off from Bendigo in Victoria on May 8 and covered a total distance of 27,675 nautical miles before returning on July 8. During the journey, the team endeavoured to raise the equivalent of $1 million (US) and the route took them across the Pacific Ocean to the USA and from there across the Atlantic Ocean to Africa, Asia and back to Australia.
