Since Aviation News last reported on plans for RAF Mildenhall on February 14, the previously announced closure programme has been paused. At that time a USAF spokesperson said that no aircraft were to leave before 2027, which was a change from the previous plan that would have seen the base close in 2023-24. We have learned today that this decision has changed again in the following official statement:

“The European Infrastructure Consolidation (EIC) action to divest RAF Mildenhall is on pause until U.S. European Command completes a reassessment of the previous closure decision and the U.S. Department of Defense makes a decision on the future of the installation.  If the EIC program of record continues, the divesture date of RAF Mildenhall is expected to be no earlier than 2027”.
