A FedEx 777 Freighter is to be the next round in the ongoing Boeing ecoDemonstrator Programme. The manufacturer said the 777 will test a compact thrust reverser developed by Boeing designed to save fuel, flight deck improvements to aid efficient operations at busy airports and prototype parts using new manufacturing techniques that reduce material waste. The testing is scheduled to be carried out over a three-month period in 2018, after which the 777F used will be returned to FedEx service. Previous rounds of ecoDemonstrator testing have used a 737-800, a 787-8, a 757 and most recently an Embraer E175. The ecoDemonstrator is a multiyear initiative assessing a broad range of emerging technologies to put into current-production and future aircraft.
