777X breakthrough for Boeing

After a series of delays, the Boeing 777-9 has finally taken to the skies. Chris Sloan braved the inclement weather in Seattle to see the long-awaited maiden sortie for himself.

On January 23, 2020, more than six years since the programme was officially launched, the Boeing 777-9, designated WH001, finally took its first flight. Naturally, the venue for this breakthrough moment was Everett/Paine Field (PAE), home to Boeing’s sprawling widebody final assembly lines in Washington state.
