After more than 50 years of airshow flying, this former RAF fast jet pilot and leading light of the warbird scene still loves displaying as much as ever

The need for the air display scene to bring on new talent is now, thankfully, widely recognised. Without it, especially on the historic side, there would be a serious risk of airshow flying becoming exclusively an older person’s game, with all the negative consequences for its long-term sustainability that brings. But, at the same time, there’s still no substitute for the sort of experience only the circuit’s elder statesmen can bring to bear. As the baton is passed on to new generations, so their abilities and knowledge continue to be highly prized.
