African Frogfoots

In the latest of our series, Alexander Mladenov turns his attention to Africa’s Frogfoot operators, which currently comprise Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Niger and Sudan.

Fleet Survey: Su-25 operators Part 4

Chad is among the more recent Su-25 recipients, having accepted its first examples in mid-2008. The Frogfoots of the Armée de l’Air Tchadienne (AAT, Chadian Air Force) were purchased secondhand from Ukraine. The first pair was delivered in early August 2008 and the type made its maiden flight in AAT service on October 31 that year. In late October 2010, another pair of Su-25s destined for Chad was seen undergoing test flights at Zaporozhye in Ukraine and delivery is believed to have taken place that December. The last of eight single-seaters and a pair of twoseaters arrived in Chad in 2013.
