France’s second largest airline, Aigle Azur, has gone into liquidation. The Paris/Orly-based carrier flew to 21 destinations in Europe and Africa, with a fleet of eight Airbus A320s, two A330s and one newly delivered A319. The airline sought bankruptcy protection on September 2 and ceased operations five days later. Subsequently, 14 bidders came forward with offers for all or part of the airline, but a court ruled that none of them were viable. A further hearing was scheduled for Aigle Azur’s most valuable assets, its landing slots at Orly, which are of interest to carriers including Air France and easyJet.
