Air bp adds three UK locations to its SAF project

With the new additions, the company has now supplied its sustainable fuel to 20 locations globally

Air bp recently provided sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to three UK airports, marking a major milestone in drive to meet lower industry carbon usage goals.

London Biggin Hill, Hawarden and Centreline FBO in Bristol all expect to have the environmental resource readily available on a running basis. According to the supplier, the new agreement for the additional sites demonstrates the driving demand for greener fuel, whilst contributing to the industry’s carbon neutral goals.

“By offering Air bp’s sustainable aviation fuel to all our customers and resident businesses, we are helping them to meet their sustainability goals too, and vitally, contributing to our industry’s aim for a net zero carbon future,” said Stephen Elsworthy, manager of fuel services at London Biggin Hill Airport.

Gus Paterson, chief operating officer of Centreline’s parent company, Paula Aviation Services Limited, also commented: “In response to growing demand, we’re delighted to be able to offer SAF to our customers and to support global efforts to decarbonise aviation. Air bp is fully committed to supporting its FBOs in understanding SAF and the impact and opportunities it can have for their business and ultimately identifying opportunities for SAF supply.”

The economically resourced product Air bp offer is made up of waste-based feedstocks, such as cooking oil combined with regular jet fuel.

Around 35% of the blend is sustainable, with this component issuing a lifecycle carbon reduction of 80% compared to using a traditional power source.

In February 2008, the firm was involved in fuelling the first SAF flight by an airline.
