Pictures shared on social media show the aircraft broken into two pieces.

The aircraft understood to be involved is a Boeing 737-800, registration VT-AXH (c/n 36323). The 13-year-old example was delivered to the airline brand-new in 2006 and is configured to seat 186 passengers.

According to flight-tracking website Flightradar24, flight IX1344 departed Dubai International at 10.00am UTC and had been expected to arrive in Kozhikode just under four hours later.
