Lufthansa is assessing the damage caused to an Airbus A340-300 after it was partially enveloped in flames. The aircraft, D-AIFA (c/n 352), was being repositioned on the ground at Frankfurt Airport on the morning of June 11 ahead of a scheduled service to Philadelphia when the tug towing it caught fire.

Pictures circulated on social media show the tug in flames under the A340’s cockpit, while the area beneath the nose cone is charred and covered with soot.
