Allied aircraft flock to UK for Exercise Cobra Warrior

A number of combat aircraft, along with their associated support assets, from multiple nations have been touching down at various locations across the UK for this year’s second attempt at Exercise Cobra Warrior, after the first was cancelled due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

Hosted by the Royal Air Force (RAF) and involving many NATO partner nations, Exercise Cobra Warrior is expected to take place from September 5-23 and comprise multiple air scenarios flown within UK airspace with both fourth- and fifth-generation fighters involved. RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire is the hosting base for this year’s edition of the exercise, with both the Luftwaffe (German Air Force) and Aeronautica Militare (AM, Italian Air Force) operating from the installation for the duration of the event.
