The Hangar 10 Collection’s Messerschmitt Bf 109G-14, D-FMGV, made its maiden post-restoration flight from Heringsdorf on the north German island of Usedom on 14 July with Klaus Plasa at the controls. The fighter has been restored by Rare Bird Aviation at Meidl Airport in Hungary, just a few miles south of the Austrian border. It wears the markings of the 14./JG 300 machine flown by Ofhr Karl-Heinz Schirmacher when he was shot down and killed during an attack on B-17s near Hannover/Wülferode on 21 November 1944. D-FMGV is now the third airworthy Bf 109 in the Hangar 10 fleet (see Aeroplane July 2018).
