Arizona Army Guard stands down on Apache

In early 2018, the Pentagon decided that the US Army National Guard’s AH- 64 leet would be reduced to only four battalions. As a result of that decision, Arizona Army National Guard’s 1-285th Attack Reconnaissance Battalion ‘Desert Hawks’, which had lown Apaches since 1992, cased its colours in a ceremony at its base at Marana Silverbell Army Heliport on August 4, 2018.

The surviving Army National Guard Apache units are the 1-130th ARB (North Carolina), 1-151st ARB (South Carolina), 1-211th ARB (Utah) and 1-149th ARB (Texas/Mississippi), each equipped with 18 AH-64Ds Apache Longbows.
