An innovative modular flight control system
For flight simmers, hardware controllers are a key part of their overall flying experience - not only for interfacing with the simulation but also in affecting the level of immersion that one feels. For this flight simmer, the ultimate immersion is using controls that are faithful reproductions, both in look and feel of those used in the real aircraft I’m currently flying. Thrustmaster’s Hands-On Throttle And Stick (HOTAS) Warthog unit, replicating the controls found in an A-10 Warthog, is a good example. So, when I heard about the availability of a new set of controls that faithfully replicated those found in the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX, designed by a company calling itself AuthentiKit, I was keen to find out more.
