New Qantas Pilot Academy

The Qantas Group has revealed that Toowoomba, in southern Queensland, is the first of two regional locations for its new pilot academy. The facility is part of the group’s long-term strategy to build a talent pipeline for its own airlines and to help the broader industry meet the increasing need for skilled aviators. Industry estimates suggest that more than 790,000 new pilots will be required globally over the next 20 years, a third of these in Asia Pacific alone. Toowoomba was chosen from a shortlist of nine regional cities, with Alice Springs, Bendigo, Busselton, Dubbo, Launceston, Mackay, Tamworth and Wagga Wagga still under consideration for the second academy site.
