New Islander takes flight in X-Plane 12

Thranda Design has announced the next aircraft in the Dynamic Generation Series, the Britten-Norman BN-2A Islander, is now available for X-Plane 12.

Other details include eight high-resolution liveries with realistic PBR (Physically Based Rendering) materials, true-to-life plate deformation and to-the-rivet precision.

The aircraft is designed to take full advantage of X-Plane 12. It features accurately simulated systems, including functional circuit breakers and authentic flight dynamics with accurate take-off, climb, cruise, and landing performance. Like other aircraft in the Thranda DGS series, it features a custom DynaFeel control system, which simulates how the control surfaces are affected by oncoming air.

The package comes with five custom instrument panels and an option to create additional panels with more than 50 instruments, including a GNS430/530, an Aspen EFD 1000 or the RealityXP 650/GTN750.

It is also possible to create custom liveries based on two basic design layouts (modern and classic). A dynamic livery editor is adjustable in real time and features full PBR control with the ability to add effects such as metallic, matte or a sandblasted look with dirt and scratches or set the desired amount of wear and tear.

Other highlights include dynamic 3D lighting, windshield ice and rain effects, swap out the pilot and co-pilot, enable a de-ice system or fit tundra tyres.

Ground equipment consists of a driveable electric tug, chocks, covers and tie-downs that keep the aircraft from moving in high winds. It also comes with different start-up options, such as cold-and-dark or ready for take-off.

An optional cargo pod can also be fitted with realistically simulated weight and drag characteristics. A weight and balance manager has options for loading individual passengers, centre-of-gravity control and create a hybrid passenger/cargo cabin layout.

A high-fidelity, multi-track sound set features smooth transitions, and atmospheric effects, including blade slapping. Individual buttons and switches in the cockpit each have unique sounds and the engine has a cool-down ticking sound based on engine temperature.

The Islander is fully VR compatible and can be updated automatically via the SkunkCrafts Updater. It is available on x-plane.org for $34.95.
