Boeing selects APG-82(V)1 AESA radar for F-15EX

Raytheon Intelligence and Space announced on October 1 that Boeing has selected its APG-82(V)1 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar for use aboard the F-15EX multi-role fighter.

The APG-82(V)1 AESA radar is able to simultaneously detect, identify and track multiple surface and air targets at long range and provides a constant target observation capability. Raytheon adds that the system “allows pilots to make smarter decisions faster and further from the threat; enabling them to keep their edge in the skies and achieve air dominance.” The firm will deliver eight APG-82(V)1 AESA radars to Boeing for the F-15EX between now and 2022.

Michelle Styczynski, Raytheon Intelligence and Space’s F-15 senior product line director, said: “The most advanced F-15 ever built demands the most advanced AESA radar available… Not only is the APG-82(V)1 radar more capable than ever, [but it’s also] combat proven – having flown in multiple theatres around the world. Our production line is up and running, and we’re ready to deliver this revolutionary capability today.”

The AESA radar is already employed by Boeing-manufactured fighters in operational US service. It is used by the US Air Force’s (USAF) F-15E Strike Eagle multi-role fighter fleet. It is also equipped on the US Navy’s F/A-18E/F Super Hornet carrier-based multi-role fighters and EA-18G Growler electronic attack (EA) aircraft.
