Gen Werner von Fritsch wrote presciently before World War Two that, “the military organisation with the best reconnaissance will win the next war”. He was killed in September 1939, during the Poland campaign, and never saw the great strides made during hostilities in photographic reconnaissance (PR) and interpretation. As well as innovative people, this reconnaissance work depended on exceptional camera equipment and supporting technology.
