Monterey is a small and appealing city around two hours drive south of San Francisco but nearer six hours from Los Angeles. Sebastian Schmitz takes a trip along the Pacific coast to check out its airport and discover what the area has to offer.
MONTEREY
Monterey is home to fewer than 30,000 residents. Its downtown includes popular shopping and dining spots such as Fisherman´s Wharf and Cannery Row – a revitalised street of former sardine factories – as well as a highly respected aquarium. The city hosts the annual Monterey Jazz Festival and Car Week, major events that draw thousands to the nearby world-famous 17-Mile Drive, which runs along the Pacific coast and ends in idyllic Carmel-by-the-Sea.
