The ‘Candy Bomber’ Gail Halvorsen has passed away aged 101

Colonel Gail Seymour Halvorsen, better known as 'The Candy Bomber', has died at the age of 101.

Halvorsen, who was also affectionately known as ‘Uncle Wiggly Wings’, ‘The Chocolate Uncle’ and ‘The Chocolate Flier’ helped drop over 23 tons of sweets to children during the Berlin Airlift of 1948-1949.
