Back in 1911, a Kansas farmer by the name of Clyde Cessna built and flew his own aircraft. Being an industrious sort of man, he quickly moved on to producing his first commercial aircraft, the optimistically named Cessna Comet. During the boom times of the fledgling aviation sector, he didn’t shy away when banks first refused to fund his ambitious aircraft design and manufacturing plans and so he moved to Wichita. Since those days, the names Cessna and Wichita have been synonymous, with Cessna still manufacturing part of its extensive aircraft range at that plant. Cessna has designed and built a vast number of general aviation aircraft ranging from the original wire-braced timber-framed monoplanes all the way to modern and very sophisticated executive jets.
