Challenging Airports - Samedan, Switzerland

In this instalment of Challenging Airports, we return once again to the deep mountain valleys of Switzerland to visit the fly-in ski destination of Samedan. Located in the eastern portion of Switzerland, Samedan shares stunning mountain topography with regional partners Austria and Liechtenstein to the north and Northern Italy to the south. The region is a playground for multi-seasonal sports enthusiasts, with a privileged few accessing the region via private and chartered corporate jets of all types. Most of us might not be able to afford a single night in one of the exclusive mountainside resorts, but all of us can take a crack at the journey to get there!

The valley airport offers stunning views in all directions.

Brief history

As far back as 1919 aviators took interest in the flat fields paralleling the Inn River that courses its way to the northeast before eventually joining with the Danube.
