If you ask most professional pilots what gets their heart rate pounding, you’ll probably only rarely hear ‘thunderstorms’ or ‘weather’ or even ‘mechanical problems’. We deal with those challenges each time we fly and to some extent they are all factors we’ve faced and, through frequent exposure, have learned to accept as a normal part of the job. Situations that tend to get us somewhat ‘excited’ are unusual procedures or tasks that require an elevated state of awareness.
