A rare Focke-Wulf Fw 190F-8 is up for sale in the US with well-known warbird broker Platinum Fighters
Aptly described as “a time capsule”, Fw 190 Wk Nr 581808 is a former 1./SG-5 machine that flew from Alakurtti (then in Finland, but now part of Russia) as part of Detachment Kuhlmey. The unit’s aim was to counter Soviet offensives during the so-called Continuation War. On August 4, 1944, the fighter was shot down by Soviet-operated Hawker Hurricanes. Pilot Alfred Kruppa bailed out of the stricken fighter, but did not survive.
Recovered from its Russian crash site in 2019, the Focke-Wulf is now in Minnesota and is described as an excellent candidate for a rebuild to flyable condition.
