Khalem Chapman explores KAI’s KF-21 Boramae, an indigenously developed multi-role fighter which will transform the Republic of Korea Air Force by the end of this decade.
For the last two decades, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has been actively developing an indigenous multi-role fighter under the Korea Fighter eXperimental (KF-X) programme.
This development came to a head when the first prototype – serial 001 – was unveiled to the public on April 9, 2021, during a ceremony at KAI’s facility in the South Korean city of Sacheon, in South Gyeongsang province. During the event, it was revealed the highly anticipated KF-X platform would be officially known as the KF-21 Boramae by the Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF).
