Event will also showcase a screening of new Korean War movie ‘Devotion’
A reunion of the Chance Vought F4U Corsair, the unique, inverted gullwing fighter perhaps best known for its exploits in the South Pacific during World War Two, will be among the warbird highlights at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2023.
The 70th edition of EAA’s fly-in convention is set to take place this year between July 24 and 30 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
“With only about two dozen flying examples of the Corsair remaining in North America, the opportunity to bring together the largest-possible group of these unforgettable aircraft at Oshkosh was one we had to organize,” said Rick Larsen, EAA’s vice president of communities and member programmes, who co-ordinates AirVenture attractions. “This airplane recently marked the 80th anniversary of its introduction to the US military and remains a favourite warbird among many enthusiasts. Our goal is to create a memorable programme with several activities that feature the Corsairs on ground display and in the air.”
The Corsair was of course prominently featured in the recently released Korean War-themed film Devotion. See the new issue of FlyPast, published this week, for an exclusive interview with Devotion writer Adam Makos, and a review of film, or read via the link below. A screening of the film will take place during AirVenture, with descendants of Jesse Brown and Tom Hudner – the film’s real life heroes – hopefully in attendance.
