The Bell 222

Despite the modern-looking design, the 222 actually started its life back in the 1960s when Bell was looking to produce a twin turbine-engined light helicopter. When production started in 1975, it was the first of its type to be made in the US and it featured what was then cutting-edge equipment such as retractable landing gear, vibration-reduction technology and dual electrical and hydraulic systems. It was so revolutionary that it also became the first helicopter to be approved for single-pilot IFR (Instrument Flying Rules) use.
