Creating connections with Iceland’s Niceair

Play isn’t the only fresh face making its mark on the Icelandic aviation scene. Gordon Smith travelled to north Iceland to meet Niceair CEO Thorvaldur Ludvik Sigurjonsson and learn more about the fledgling carrier’s game-changing connectivity

With a population comparable in size to Leicester, it’s tempting to write off Iceland as a small, volcanic rock in the extreme North Atlantic. While there’s certainly no shortage of seismic activity around here (as anyone who has enjoyed a fresh slice of lava bread will testify) don’t be fooled by Iceland’s surprising scale. At 40,000 sq miles, it has five times the land mass of Wales and is almost as big as England. Even before one considers the staggering topography of the place, you’d think its sheer size justifies more than one international air gateway at Keflavík.
