CVG Airport inaugurates Assaia’s AI ‘Turnaround Control’ solution

The system is set to enhance handling processes by working with airlines to improve transparency and on-time performance at the base

Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport (CVG) and Swiss aviation software company, Assaia International AG are deploying the firm’s ‘Turnaround Control’ solution at the hub.

The new technology is set to enhance turn transparency and assist the base in working with airline partners to improve on-time performance.

With 24-hour monitoring, the system is able to identify what is happening during different handling processes and can contact employees if any deviations from the schedule are detected. Situations that cause the most delays can be relayed back to management so that corrective action can be taken.

“CVG is a leader in innovation by applying new technology to benefit the airport’s ecosystem. Creating full visibility over airside operations will increase operational efficiencies and thus allow for higher utilisation of the airport’s infrastructure,” said Max Diez, CEO at Assaia.

The cargo hub is currently installing cameras and AI technology at some of its gates to gather data and provide extra visibility to carriers.

Brian Cobb, chief innovation officer at CVG, added: “Assaia’s technology adds critical data points to CVG’s early-stage neural network for operational advancements. Structured data generated by artificial intelligence will provide information to make decisions, optimise airside processes, and improve efficiency and safety.”

Computer vision software is able to generate insights from video streams to optimise apron operations in real-time. The system rollout began in April, with the first gates going live by the end of the month.
