DCS: F/A-18C Hornet

The new flagship module for DCS World!

On January 17, 1991 four US Navy F/A-18Cs launched from the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga on a mission to bomb an airfield in Iraq. Slung under the wings of each jet were four 2,000lb Mk-84 bombs, two AIM-9L Sidewinders and two AIM-7 Sparrows. En route to the target, a Navy controller passed along that two Iraqi MiG-21s were headed towards them. At three miles, with a positive visual ID, pilots Mongo Mongillo and Mark Fox shot down both MiG- 21s with their air-to-air missiles. After the brief engagement, the Hornet pilot pressed on towards the target, an enemy airfield in southwestern Iraq and performed an accurate strike before making the long two-and-a-half hour flight back to the Saratoga. On that mission, the F/A-18C Hornet fulfilled the ‘F’ (Fighter) and ‘A’ (Attack) designations simultaneously. Now, Eagle Dynamics, in collaboration with Belsimtek, has brought the iconic Hornet to the skies of DCS World.
