Saab is going all out in its bid to provide the Finnish Air Force with a successor to its ageing Boeing F/A-18C/D Hornet fleet under the HX Fighter programme.
The Finnish Ministry of Defence (MOD) has budgeted €10bn worth of funding to procure a sufficient number of multi-role fighters to replace its legacy Hornets, while maintaining and enhancing the air arm’s current capabilities. The Finnish government is expected to make a final decision on its desired successor in 2021, with deliveries slated to take place between 2025 and 2030.
