Desert Storm 30: Kadena's MiG Killers

In the early hours of August 2, 1990, Iraqi armour, supported by special forces, crossed the border into Kuwait. Despite spirited resistance, the Kuwaiti military was overwhelmed within 48 hours, although some surviving ground and air elements were able to flee to Saudi Arabia. Fearing Saddam Hussein would order his forces to seize Kuwait’s oilfields, the US launched Operation Desert Shield on August 6.
