Domodedovo Airport opens new rail terminal

The facility includes two railway platforms alongside a pedestrian gallery

The operator of airport rail services in Russia, Aeroexpress has opened a new terminal at Domodedovo Airport.

The new facility received its first passengers yesterday (July 15) and consists of two railway platforms with a canopy, four tracks and a four-storey multifunctional complex.

A pedestrian gallery has also been opened at the site which connects the facility and the passenger terminal together and includes its own entrance security point. This allows travellers to move directly to the airport building rather going outside.

“Our own terminal opening is an important step both in the development of our company and in the development of the airport,” said Alina Bisembaeva, Aeroexpress general director. “Our common priority is the comfort of passengers at every stage of their trip. The new infrastructure will make the journey from Moscow to the airport more seamless and convenient – now air passengers can go quickly to the departure hall directly from the railway platform through the covered passage. And when travelling to the city, they can spend time waiting for the next Aeroexpress in comfort and with benefits.”

Andrey Pavlov, director of Moscow Domodedovo Airport, added: “This year at Domodedovo the frequency of flights to key domestic tourism destinations increased by 90% compared to June-August 2019. On the eve of the high season, we jointly with our partner are pleased to offer travellers this new comfortable infrastructure. Now Aeroexpress passengers can get to the airport without going outside through the glazed passage equipped with modern lighting, ventilation and heating systems.”

The hub plans to open a hotel in the two upper floors of the site, which is set to begin operating in the near future.

Designers wanted a barrier free environment, therefore lifts have been installed, as well as special cash registers and turnstile blocks for people with reduced mobility.

Aeroexpress created a connection between the airport and the centre of Moscow in 2008. Trains operate every half an hour and transport passengers from Paveletsky rail station to the hub.
