Four Buchóns over Duxford for the first time in 50 years.
HARRY MEASURES

14-15 JULY

If this wasn’t a memorable Duxford moment, it’s hard to say what would be. Four Hispano HA-1112 Buchóns running in at high speed, a trio of Spitfires taking off underneath them, all veterans of the Battle of Britain filming 50 years ago. With William Walton’s ‘Battle in the Air’ playing, a high-energy tailchase ensued, split into two groups to give a sky full of action. Eventually the Spitfires — the Old Flying Machine Company’s LFIX MH434, The Fighter Collection’s LFVb EP120, and MkIa AR213 from Comanche Fighters — broke off to land, leaving the Buchóns to form a ‘schwarm’ for a final sweeping formation pass in front of the appreciative crowd.
