Extreme A380 cabins: what happened to the gyms and cinemas?

While the A380’s size stimulated the imagination of interior designers, not all ideas came to fruition. We spoke to design house director Luke Hawes about the realities of jumbo cabin design

After Airbus announced its intention to create a capacious double-deck airliner, bold new cabin concepts began emerging from the airlines, cabin designers and even Airbus itself. Many featured luxurious first-class products and business-class seats providing expansive space in which to work and relax; others were more radical. There were suggestions of gyms so passengers could exercise in flight, and cinemas for mass entertainment.
