The clifftop memorial that honours the men who fought the Battle of Britain has been shortlisted for a major tourism award
The Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone in Kent, has been named as a finalist in the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year category in this year's Beautiful South tourism awards.
It means the Memorial, which is home to the National Memorial to the Few, is guaranteed at least a bronze medal when the winners are announced at a gala event on 12 December in Brighton.
“We are delighted that the Memorial has been recognised in this way,” commented chairman Richard Hunting CBE. “This is a prestigious competition that involves a 'mystery shopper' visit as well as written evidence and to reach the finals is a great reflection on the staff and volunteers who do such an amazing job.”
