Tom Batchelor meets Tonje Wikstrøm Frislid, CEO of new Norwegian carrier Flyr, to learn more about taking a different approach to running a low-cost airline
When Tonje Wikstrøm Frislid quit the aviation industry in 2018, she had no intention of returning. The former Norwegian Air Shuttle executive had grown impatient at the lack of innovation and development across the sector, and saw a role at an Oslo bus company as offering the change she was after. But the chance to launch an airline from scratch – and at the same time become the first female airline CEO in the Nordics – was too good to turn down. Three years after her initial exit, she was back, this time in charge of Flyr.
