FlightSim Studio has followed up its 2023 release of the light twin Tecnam P2006T for Microsoft Flight Simulator with its big brother, the 11-seat Tecnam P2012 Traveller.
As we read in Issue 146, Tecnam is an Italian aircraft manufacturer that has produced the increasingly popular P2006T four-seat light twin. The type is commonly used as a private aircraft and twin-engine trainer. Within a couple of years of the maiden flight of the P2006T, Tecnam was approached by Massachusetts commuter airline Cape Air to see if it could design and build a new aircraft to replace its ageing fleet of 83 Cessna 402s. Cape Air needed an aircraft that would ideally accommodate up to 10 passengers for its New England routes, while also being cheap to operate and maintain.
Tecnam leapt at the chance and in 2016, the first P2012 Traveller took to the skies. Cape Air liked what it saw and soon confirmed an order for 102 airframes with operations starting in October 2019. Since then, the Traveller has been adapted for other operations including VIP transport, cargo and medical evacuation services and more.
