Taking flight simulation to the next level
For many aviation enthusiasts, the term ‘flight simulator’ conjures up images of desktop PCs and joysticks but this virtual pastime is now being taken to the next level, as Airliner World’s Craig West discovered.
The flight experience
As I eased the two power levers forward, I paused momentarily to let the N1 gauges stabilise at 40%, before lifting my feet off the brakes and setting take-off power. Behind me, I could hear the roar from the engines as the Boeing 737-800 lurched forward, quickly gaining speed. I added a little right rudder to correct for the crosswind and keep the accelerating jet on the centreline as the runway lights flashed by.
