Embraer is utilising the latest fly-by-wire technology in its E2 family to boost both performance and safety, as Airliner World’s James Ronayne found out.

The team developing the E2 family used a ‘three-pillar approach’ to design the aircraft, with every decision a careful balancing act between each. The first pillar stipulated the jet needed to remain attractive to potential customers, just like the E1. The second was the E2 had to be more efficient than the current generation E-Jets, while the third required pilots to fly both E1s and E2s on the same licence.
