Flying High with Captain Chris

Since he was a boy, Chris Pohl dreamed of being a commercial pilot. Now, with 38 years of experience behind him, he’s able to reflect on a fascinating career which continues to reach new heights. Louise Rose Jones caught up with the Virgin Atlantic training captain and social media star to find out more.

From the moment 12-year-old Christopher set foot inside a cockpit, he knew that becoming a pilot would be the best job in the world. Fast-forward 38 years and more than 24,000 hours in the air (the equivalent to 1,000 days) and his flying career has soared. Pohl’s role as a senior training captain for Virgin Atlantic’s Airbus A350/A330 fleet sends him all over the world, with several recent high-profile sorties including operating the carrier’s inaugural A350-1000 flight between Heathrow and New York/JFK in September 2019.
