The SM79 was remembered by its crews with particular affection. Maresciallo Prampolini, who lew both bomber and torpedo attack versions, said, “The Sparviero was, in my opinion, a truly excellent aircraft. Despite it being a bomber, it was very agile, and responded promptly to the controls, to the extent that some pilots performed loops and rolls on the type. These characteristics were very important, especially when performing the violent evasion manoeuvres immediately following the dropping of a torpedo…”
