After nearly two years, London/Gatwick’s South Terminal is poised for reopening on March 27 in a bid to “meet the expected strong demand” during summer 2022 and beyond.
The move comes as airlines ramp-up operations ahead of the summer season. Most notably, British Airways’ brand-new Gatwick-based, short-haul subsidiary, to be known as BA Euroflyer – which, according to the flag carrier, will operate similar to its London/City-based BA CityFlyer operation, flying under the brand name but existing as “an entirely separate entity” – is set to launch flights from March 29.
Up to 35 destinations across Europe are intended to be eventually served by the British Airways offshoot from the West Sussex hub. For instance, on the opening day (March 29), Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Larnaca, Paphos (both Cyprus); Seville, Tenerife (both Spain); and Verona, Italy are scheduled to commence – the remaining routes will be gradually added while the 35th and final initial destination, Athens, Greece, is due to come online from May 4. Tickets for all 35 locations have been on sale since December 14.
