Airlines such as SWISS and easyJet are preparing for take-off later this month, working in conjunction with the hub’s new protection plan
European flights from Geneva Airport are set to resume later this month providing positive news for the region, as the base supports more than 33,000 jobs.
The site has developed a protection plan, to ensure the safety of employees, passengers and visitors at the request of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).
Together with the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), recommendations have been made regarding personal hyenine and health regulations.
During periods of high traffic, the airport has recognised that it is difficult to comply with the social distancing measures. Therefore, wearing a mask is the main safety strategy now in place to protect those travelling through compact areas.
Hydro-alcoholic gel has been made available to employees working at the site. Passengers are also able to access the disinfectant dispensers located at terminal entrances, security desks and boarding gates.
Some airlines have continued operations from the airport throughout the pandemic, including Air France, Alitalia, Belavia, KLM, Lufthansa and SWISS.
From June 15, Switzerland’s flag carrier plans to increase its flights from Geneva. This includes the restart of services to Portugal, Greece, Spain, France and Kosovo. London, Dublin, Frankfurt, Prague and Moscow are also expected to be added to its network in the near future.
EasyJet has also announced that it will be partially resuming operations from the Swiss city later this month, beginning with Bordeaux, Brindisi, Lisbon, Nantes, Nice and Porto.
Intercontinental services are similarly beginning to restart.
Ethiopian Airlines was the first to come back to Geneva last month with flights to Addis Ababa, following journeys to Abu Dhabi operated by Etihad.
It is expected that the recovery of other long-haul networks will begin in July, including the return of Emirates, Qatar Airways, Air Canada and Air China.
