IN PICTURES: German Tornados make rare low-level appearance in UK

The six German Air Force Tornado ECRs currently deployed to the UK for Exercise Cobra Warrior are also undertaking their own training sorties outside of the aforementioned event.

The crews have taken advantage of a number of low flying areas and on September 16 two Tornados, 46+49 and 46+50, practised low-level flying in the Lake District which is part of Low Flying Area 17 (LFA17).

These two aircraft along 46+23, 46+25, 46+32 and 46+51 from Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 51 (TaktLwG 51), arrived at RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire on August 31.

RAF Waddington is also hosting Italian Air Force Eurofighter F-2000As and a Gulfstream E-550A (G550) Conformal Airborne Early Warning (CAEW) aircraft, plus a NATO Boeing E-3A Sentry. A number of additional aircraft are taking part from other bases for the exercise which is scheduled to run to September 23, details can be found here.
