A rail link will connect the airport to the city by 2025. (Glasgow Airport)

PROPOSALS TO connect Glasgow Airport to the city’s main railway station and the national rail network have taken a step forward as part of the £144m Glasgow Airport Access Project. Specially-built tram-trains will operate on the heavy-rail network between Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmour Street before transferring onto new track for the final leg to the airfield. It is expected there will be four departures per hour in each direction, offering a 16.5-minute journey. The interchange at Gilmour Street will enable passengers on the Ayrshire and Inverclyde lines to access the service.
